Keeping Deer Off Your Property with Deer
Repllents
When it comes to unwanted animal visitors, deer are
not often high on the list. So, why do we need deer repellents.
They rarely carry disease, they would rather run away than
attack you and your family, and they generally stay away from
most city properties.
But for those that live outside of the city, deer can still
be a nuisance. They are large animals that eat a lot of the
greenery in your garden. And with food slowly diminishing in
many of the natural places that deer would normally feed off
property, they feel as though they are welcome to help
themselves at the never-ending buffet that is the food in your
garden.
How to Get Rid of Deer
Finding a way to repel deer from your property often
involves using some type of deer repellent that discourages
deer from bothering both you and your property. When choosing a
deer repellent, however, you want to keep the following in
mind:
- You want to make sure that whatever you use is safe and
organic, because you do not want to harm either the deer or
your family by releasing harsh chemicals into the
environment.
- You want to make sure that it is a permanent, rather
than a temporary solution, because deer will often come
back to areas they know when they are hungry, and a
temporary solution will have worn off by the time the deer
come back.
- You may want to try more than one different type of
deer repellent, ideally, because multiple deer repellents
only increase their effectiveness.
Of the choices for deer repellents, there are a number of
different organic options. Much of the decision you make is not
necessarily based on the product itself, but on the size of
your property. For example, there is an interesting type of
deer deterrent known as “Plant Protec” which sprays a non-toxic
garlicky scent in a small area around your garden. Those that
are only protecting their garden could benefit greatly from
this repellent.
On the other hand, if you are protecting a larger area,
there are ultrasonic noise machines that tend to scare deer
away from property by emitting a high frequency noise that deer
and other animals find irritating. It is not advised for people
with dogs that are easily bothered by noise, but works well at
protecting large areas from wildlife.
For those that are looking for something more frightening
and permanent, you can always install an electric fence as
well. These fences are far less safe for both your family and
the deer, but any nosy animals will certainly get the message.
If you choose this method, make sure you use something low
powered. You only want to deter the deer – not harm them.
Deer Repellents
There are a number of different examples of deer repellents
that can be used to protect your property. While your decision
is largely based on the size of the area you are trying to
protect, in this day and age it is very important that you also
use one that will neither harm the environment or the animals.
As long as it does neither, you can give almost any deer
repellent at try.
